    The first "camera" was made by Nicéphore Niépce, but it didn't take pictures. Instead, he made an obscure effect with a window in a dark room that made the light coming from outside flipped. So if there was a tree outside, it looked upside-down. Printing pictures in a tangible way didn't happen auntie later with Kodak
  • The Horse Bet and frame rate

    The Horse Bet and frame rate
    It started with a bet between two dudes whether a horse could have all 4 legs off the ground when galloping. They hired Eadweard Muybridge to do the photos, and he devised a way in which 12 cameras went off in a sequence which caught the horse galloping, frame by frame.
  • Lumiere Brothers and projectors

    Lumiere Brothers and projectors
    Like Edison and his company, the Lumiere Bothers figured out how to make film based of the horse bet. The Lumiere started showing them in cafes and would charge people to come watch. They were really short - about 30 - 60 seconds a piece.
  • MPPC Monopoly

    MPPC Monopoly
    Edison decides he wants to monopolize the film industry shortly after someone in his company made the first movie, the great train robbery. They were based in New York and harassed other companies that didn't make movies under the MPPC. They didn't mention actors in the credits so they can maximize profits. Important because it made some film companies flee to California, establishing Hollywood and eventually blockbusters.
  • Hollywood Land

    Hollywood Land
    As a result of the MPPC being jerks, film companies ended up in California. Actors are paid and people will come to see movies BECAUSE their favorite actors were in them
  • Talkies

    Talkies
    Instead of silent films adding subtitles, we now get hear the actors' voices. This became a new standard in film.
  • Color

    Color
    Color was being experimented earlier by spinning red and green wheels in front of the film to create the illusion of color. Technicolor was a company that specialized in color, but it was expensive
  • Blockbusters

    Hollywood starts releasing movies in the summer and lots of people go to watch those movies. This starts to make the film industry multi-million
