French and Indian War
Conflict between the British and the French. French had the Indians on their side however they British still came out with a victory. -
Treaty of Paris
Marked the end of the French and Indian War. -
Proclamation of 1763
Way to prevent further Indian wars. Declared all lands west of the Appalacian Mountains were Indian lands and colonists couldn't purchase these lands. -
Sugar Act
Put taxes on sugar, coffee, and other imports. It also reduced the duties on molasses. -
Currency Act
Kept colonists from priting their own paper money. Made colonists use gold or silver to pay their debts. -
Quartering Act
Required colonists to provide housing and provisions to British troops. -
Stamp Act
Placed tax on legal documents by placing a stamp on them. -
Declaratory Act
Gave Parliment the right to legislate for the colonies in all cases. -
Townshed Acts
British economy was suffering and they believed the colonists should pay their share of taxes so they made this act. Put taxes on cloth, lead, glass, paper, and tea. -
Boston Massacre
Conflict in Boston when the colonists came at the British in an angry mob and the British shot at them killing 5 and injuring others. -
Tea Act of 1773
Act passed to help the East India Company from bankruptcy. Placed heavy tax on tea and was the only tea allowed to be sold in the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of colonists dressed up as Indians boarded a ship and dumped crated of tea into the ocean. -
Coercive Acts
Four acts meant to punish Massachusetts. -
Quebec Act
Recognized the boundaries of Quebec to the Ohio River and legalized Catholicism in that region. -
First Continental Congress
The congress discussed an appropriate response to the Coercive Acts. -

Revolutionary War

Lexington
British were met by minutemen. When the minutemen were ordered to leave they did but then someone fired a shot and the battle began with the British ending in victory. -
Concord
Minutemen knew the couldn't defeat the British head on so they started using guerilla warfare. This allowed them to win the battle. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
American troops run out of supplies aloowing the British to defeat them. -
Declaration of Independence
Document written by Thomas Jefferson. It was signed by Congress establishing that the war was for independence. -
Saratoga
Turning point of the war. The British were forced to surrender because they didn't have enough men. -
Yorktown
Americand and the French blocked the British in by land and by sea, forcing them to surrender. This war to most people meant that the war had been won. -
Treaty of Paris
This ended the Revolutionary War and gave independence to America.
