FIH- Fédération Internationale de Hockey sur Gazon
In 1924, field hockey was dropped from the Olympics, prompting Fédération Internationale de Hockey sur Gazon (FIH) to form. This is an international organization that was initially made up of seven European nations (Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Spain and Switzerland). Field Hockey was reinstated to participate in the Olympic games in 1928. -
IFWHA- International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations
The International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations was founded in 1927 by Australia, Denmark, England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, the United States and Wales. THe IFWHA held conferences every three years and were non-competitive until 1975. -
IFWHA and FIH merge
In 1982, the International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA) merged with the FIH. -
National Field Hockey League formed.
The National Field Hockey League (NFHL) was formed in 1997 as the governing body of club field hockey in the United States.
