The draft Constitution
Meetings discussed the draft constitution and made changes. Queensland and Western Australia were the only colonies that did not vote. The vote failed because New South Wales did not agree to what was written. -

Changes made to the Constitution
Changes were made to the constitution. A new capital would be built between Sydney and Melbourne. People in all colonies voted except Western Australia for the new constitution. This time it was successful. -
Becomming a Nation
A committeee took the constitution to London to persuade the British parliment to pass a law allowing five colonies to join together to become a nation. The law was passed and Queen Victoria signed in July saying that on 1st January 1901, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania would become states in the Commonwealth of Australia. The Western Australians started to change their minds about federation and in August they voted to be apart of it. -
