Morrill land-grant Act
In 1862 under President Abraham Lincoln Congress approved an act that required all states to designate one state college that was utilizing land given by the federal government toward the dissemination of practical and useful information relating to agriculture, home economics, and rural energy. This important act is called the Morrill land-Grant Act. -

In 1994 the name home economics was changed to Family Consumer Science (FCS).
