Women wore corsets to shape the bodies into unnatural "S-bend to create a feminine silhouette. They wore slim-fitting skits, long sleeves and high collars that was feminine but stiff.
Things changed with the death of Queen Victoria in England. -
The Early 1900's in America
In 1909, Vogue featured woman wearing loose-fitting styled dresses and the styles were much softer in appearance. You would see full skirts at a shorten length.
The first manufactured fiber was invented, Rayon. It was much like silk. -
THE ROARING 20'S THE FLAPPER DRESS OF THE 1920S WAS STRAIGHT AND SHORT, ADORNED WITH FRINGE OR FLOUNCES AND WORN WITH A LONG STRING OF BEADS.
AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY TIMES WERE CHANGING. AFER WORLD WAR I, PEOPLE'S EXCITEMENT SHOWED IN THEIR FASHIONS. -
THE 30'S WOMEN BECAME ACTIVE IN SPORTS. THEY BEGAN TO WER WIDE TROUSERS AND ABOVE THE KNEE SHORTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE EVENTS
EVENING GOWNS WERE LONG, FORMFITTING, AND OFTEN CUT ON THE BIAS.
BY COMPARISON, MEN'S CLOTHING WENT ALMOST UNCHANGED IN THIS SAME PERIOD. BOTH SINGLE- AND DOUBLE-BREASTED SUITS. -
The 40"s
