Rome in Chaos
Many Roman armies said their generals emperor, and the legions fought each other, and didn't defend. 50 emperors where named, and less than 20 got to Rome. None died of natural causes. Eventually, a man named Diocletian stopped the violence, and became emperor in 284. -

Constantine became Emperor
After Diocletian became ill and died, generals fought to control the empire. Constantine won in 312, and was the emperor. -

Constantine founds Constantinople
Constantine founded his own city in the East to bring up Christianity. -

Visigoths (Western Goths) let into Eastern Empire
The Visigoths, a barbarian tribe, were let into the Eastern Empire to escape the Huns, an even more dangerous tribe of barbarians. -

Goths sack Rome
The Goths succesfully defeated Rome. This came as a shock; Rome was called "Eternal Rome". Rome would never be as powerful as it once was. -

The Huns approached the gates of Rome, but the Pope begged for mercy and recieved it. -

The empire is split
Diocletian Split the Roman Empire because it was too large for one emperor to rule. It was split into two sections, East and West. -
Visigoths attack from within
The refugee Visigoths were being badly treated by the Romans, and in 378, they destroyed a whole Roman army and killed the emperor, Valens. Theodosius, the Emperor, calmed them down in the Balkans. -
Theodosius I dies
When the emperor died, his two weaker sons took over. -
