started in Hollywood it was thought that the enzymes in grapefruit would get rid of fat. You were supposed to eat grapefruit with every meal. -
Cabbage soup diet
It is unknown where this started but the diet stated that you could lose 10 pounds per week just by eating cabbage soup 2-3 times a day along with something else from a list of accepted food. -
Cookie diet
A doctor in Florida created the Cookie diet. The cookies were meal replacements and made with a blend of amino acids. -
Slim fast
Slim fast was invented and was supposed to be used as a meal replacer for breakfast and lunch. This was supposed to be followed by a sensible dinner. It was created by S. Daniel Abraham. -
Atkins Diet
Robert C Atkiins, MD made the Atkins diet famous. It was a high protein, low carb plan that focused on eating a lot of meat and fats. -
Zone diet
This was created by Barry Spears. He thought that we are still hunter/gatherers and need to go back to doing that. He thought meal structure was more important than calorie count. The nutrients were broken down into blocks and the plans were based off of that. -
Macrobiotic diet
Gwyneth Paltrow started a trend with this Japanese plan. It is based on 40-60% of your diet being organic whole grains and locally grown vegetables for the rest. No soda, alcohol, caffeine, etc. Limit processed foods, refined sugars, meats, and non organic food. -
South beach diet
Artheru Agatston, MD. created this diet using the Atkins diet as a base but modifying it to make it less strict. He named it South Beach because he was from Miami. -
Master cleanse
Beyonce started a trend of drinking hot water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper when she used this to lose weight for her role in Dreamgirls.
