The Morrill Act of 1862 led to the opening of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR as the first land-grant university in Arkansas. -
Ellen Swallow permitted to enter examinations
The vote was adopted to recommend Ellen Swallow to present herself to the Degree of Institute so she could take the examinations needed for the Degree in Chemistry. This vote was confirmed and she was permitted to enter the examination. -
Women's Laboratories Discontinued
It was voted that due to the facilities afforded by the new chemical labratories and to pursue the wishes of benefactors the "women's laboratory" would be discontinued. The students were admitted to the Kidder Laboratory without distinction of sex. -
E. Richards released from Chemistry Laboratories
The President thanked Ellen Richards for her work and informed her that at the moment there was no place for her to be employed. It was requested for Ellen Richards to maintain in the Catalogue. -
Ellen Richards appointed as assistant
It was voted that Ellen Richards be appointed as assistant under Professor Nichols. Her salary was set at $600 for the year, but later voted to be changed to $1,000 per year later that May. -
