  • Mark Zuckerberg becomes network developer for HarvardConnections.com

    Harvard seniors Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra were on the lookout for a web developer to bring life to the idea of a social network for Harvard students and alumni.
    The site was to be called HarvardConnections.com.
  • Zuckerberg starts thinking about creating Facebook

    Mark sent the following email to the HarvardConnections team:
    "I put together one of the two registration pages so I have everything working on my system now. I'll keep you posted as I patch stuff up and it starts to become completely functional."
    A few weeks later the emails sent by Zuckerberg acquire a more detatched tone, and it has been speculated that this was because around the time, he was already working on the social network Facebook.

    19-year-old Mark Zuckerberg launched the site as a Harvard sophomore along with fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.
    The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University.

    Accel partners invested $12.7 million in Facebook, and Jim Breyer added a further $1 million of his own money.

    A week later Zuckerberg was accused by three Harvard seniors of having stolen the idea from them.
    This deveolped into a lawsuit on behalf of the Winklevoss brothers and Divya Narendra, who sued Mark Zuckerberg for theft and fraud.

    According to Consumer Reports survey, there are 7.5 million children under 13 with accounts and 5 million under 10, violating the site's terms of service, and Quantcast estimates that at this same time, Facebook had138.9 million monthly unique U.S. visitors
