Extending Suffrage

  • All white males could vote

    Religious qualifications, property ownership, and tax payment qualifications began to disappear.
  • Denied the right to vote because of race or color.

    Following the Civil War, the 15th ammendment was ratified. This was done in an effort to protect any citizen from being denied the right to vote based on their race or color.
  • Prohibits being denied the right to vote based on gender.

    The 19th ammendment prohibited the denial of the right to vote because of your gender.
  • African Americans gain a full role in voting

  • Voting age must be 18

    The 26th amendment states that no sate can increase the minimum voting age over 18.
