Columbus the Sailer
Young Christopher, the teenager,got a job in a merchant ship. When he was on his way to England,he and his crew were attacked by a group of french pirates. The merchant ship started sinking. Luckily,he was able to swim to the shore of Lisbon in Portugal while holding on to a piece of wood.

Landing on San Salvador
On October 12, Columbus landed on an island in the Bahamas. He called San Salvador; the natives called it Guanahani. "He met natives there that he called Indians because he was convinced that he had landed on islands off the coast of East Asia." He also visited Cuba and Hispaniola.

Returning Home
After discovering America, Columbus excited to return home to get his money.Only the Pinta and the Nina were able to return to Spain, however,the Santa Maria crashed Hispaniola's coast.Columbus left 43 men behind on the island to start an army.When he returned home,he was treated amazingly.He showed some of the things he had found like"turkeys,fruits,and some natives he had captured." Discovering Jamaica
Christopher Columbus found Jamaica "when he “claimed” it for Spain during his second voyage to the New World." (www.jamaicans.com) The Tainos (The Taino were Arawak people who were the native people of the Caribbean and Florida.) called the island “Xaymaca”, the Spanish renamed it to “Jamaiqua” and by time became “Jamaica”'.

His Second voyage
Christopher's mission for the second voyage was to conquer the Taino tribe and colonize the region. " The expedition contained supplies to establish permanent colonies in the New World." In November of 1493, his crew discovered " the Dominica, Guadeloupe and Jamaica islands." Which was a huge step in history. It ended in the year 1496.

In his third voyage,Columbus sailed farther south, to what we now know as Trinidad & Venezuela."Columbus left the port of Sanlucar in southern Spain on May 30, 1498 with six ships, bound for the New World on his third voyage." It ended in the year 1500.

Arrested
Columbus and his brothers got arrested Because of their misgovernance,they were arrested and "imprisoned upon their return to Spain from the third voyage." They stayed in jail for six weeks before King Ferdinand ordered their release.

The Fourth voyage
In Columbus's fourth voyage, his goal ore unknown "areas in the west of the Caribbean in hopes of finding a passage to the orient" Unfortunately,the fourth voyage was mostly a failure. "Many of Columbus’ men died,his ships were lost, and no passage to the west was ever found."Columbus never sailed again and when he died in 1506,"he was convinced that he'd found Asia,even if most of Europe already accepted the fact that the Americas were an unknown "New World"It ended in 1504.
