He wanted to find a Christian Empire with a priest by the name of Prester John. -

Christopher Columbus First Voyage
Christopher Columbus set sail from the Por of Palas, Spain on August 3, 1492. During this voyage he stopped at many islands, and arrived at Bariay Bay, Cuba oon Oct. 28th. While he was there he kidnapped many native americans and the Santa Maria sank on Dec. 25th. When he went to leave he had to leave 40 men behind. -

Vasco was the first person to sail directly from Europe to India, taking the 200 ton St. Gabriel. During the exploration, his crew got sick with scurvy and had to rest and do repairs for a month. It took close to two years to cover nearly 24,000 miles and only 54 out of 170 crew members survived. -

The Middle Passage was also known as the Atlantic Slave Trade because ships sailed on the Atlantic with slaved in their cargo either "loosely packed" or "tightly packed". These slaves were taken from their homeland to other countries, some didn't even make it to the other countries and died from sea sickness and many other diseases
