Tim Berners-Lee ENQUIRE
In 1980, Tim Berners-Lee, built what was, ENQUIRE. A personal database of people and software models, but also as a way to play with hypertext; each new page of information in ENQUIRE had to be linked to an existing page. -
World Wide Web got it's name
In 1984 Berners-Lee considered physicists from around the world needed to share data, and with no common machines and no common presentation software. He wrote a proposal in March 1989 for "a large hypertext database with typed links", but it generated little interest. Mike Sendall, encouraged Berners-Lee to begin implementing his system. He considered several names, including Informational Mesh or The Informational Mesh. They settled on the World Wide Web. -
HTTP and HTML were born
By Christmas 1990, Berners-Lee built all the tools necessary for a working Web. The HyperText Transfer Protocol or HTTP. The HyperText Markup Language or HTML. The first Web browser, the first HTTP server software, the first web server, and the first Web pages that described the project itself. -
Public availablity of the Internet
On August 6, 1991, Berners-Lee posted a short summary of the World Wide Web project. This date also marked the debut of the Web as a publicly available service on the Internet. -
Internet Explorer is created
Microsoft invented the first search engine. -
Google was born
Google has become an interent search engine. -
Wikipedia
Wikipedia launched in January 2001. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger founded it. Wikipedia has 23 million articles written in 285 different languages. It is the largest and the biggest referance work on the internet. -
Facebook
Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin. Mark Zuckerberg is the world's youngest billionaire. Facebook is the biggest social networking site available. -
Gmail
Google lauched their own email system. As of June 2012, Gmail has 425 million users world wide. -
Youtube is created
Youtube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, Jawed Karim in 2005. Youtube is currently owned by Google inc. Youtube has 500 million users.
