Wax and Stylus

The first writing tools where a wet piece of clay and apiece of straw. They would inscribe they’re writings in the clay and then let it dry. This became popular around 8500 B.C. -

The Quill
The Quill was first used between 500 and 700 AD. The quill is a feather that was dipped in a nut or gum based ink. The user would have to reapply ink after every few words and would have to watch out for to much ink on the quill which could cause a splotch. This revoloutionised writing -
The dip pen
The fountain pen was patented in 1803. In 1884 Louis Waterman invented the first proper fountain pen. The pen was able to hold ink in itself. The writing was the same as the quill. It had a pointy end and the ink would slide of it and onto the paper. The pen would have to be refilled every once in a while with so that it could keep being used. -
The ball point
In the summer of 1943, the first commercial ball point pen was made. The original invention was created by Josef Lazlo and Georg Biro. In 1953 the first inexpensive pen was made by the BIC. -
Felt tipped pen
The first felt-tip pen to come to the U.S from Japan was Paper mates in 1960’s. After the success of the felt tipped pens manufacturers came out with other fabric pens such as the highlighter. -
Highlighter
A highlighter is a felt tip writing device filled with transparent fluorescent ink. The first highlighter was introduced in 1963 by Carter's Ink Company, using the trademarked name Sharpie. Avery Dennison Corporation now owns the brand, having acquired Carter's Ink Company in 1975.[2] Stabilo-Boss had been producing felt tip writing devices since 1971. It is hailed as the European product leader of manufacturing highlighters. In 2003, the company has changed its name to Stabilo International.[3 -

Erasable pen
Erasermate (known as the Replay in Europe and Brazil) is a pen product introduced by the Papermate division of the Gillette Company in 1979.[1] The word Erasermate in and of itself has become known as the erasable pen of the Papermate product line.
