In 1946, the rival Basketball Association of America (BAA) and National Basketball League (NBL) merge to form the National Basketball Association (NBA). -
First NBA AllStar game
The NBA chooses the best players in the league to join for the first time and play one of the most memorable all star games in history. George Mikan was the AllStar game mvp later becoming listed in the NBA's top 50 players of all time. -
First Lakers vs. Celtics NBA finals
Running from April 4th -9th of 1959 this series would start one of the most iconic sports rivalries. The Celtics due to star Bob Cousey had swept the Lakers in 4 games leadng them to win championship. -
Wilt's Debut
The legendary Wilt Chamberalain on this date made his NBA debut for the Phily Warriors (Now Golden State Warriors). He would go on in his legendary career to change the skill level of basketball, and still holds the NBA scoring record at 100 pts. -
Bill Russells Incredible Player Coach Title
Running from April 21st- May 2nd, the man with 11 NBA champion rings probably picks up the most rediculous ring. He did so by being the Celtics star player, but also their coach! leading to the Celtics once again besting the Lakers in 6 games winning 4-2. -
The Lakers Incredible Run
Still unbroken until today the 71-72 Lakers lead by Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West lead the Lakers to win 33 straight games. they ended with a record of 69-13 and beat the NY Knicks in 5 games in the NBA Finals. -
The Draft for the Ages
The 1984 NBA is a draft people may call unreal, or the best draft to ever be called into the NBA mainly because of the number of Hall of Famers and superstars drafted. For example, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkely, Hakeem "the Dream", John Stockton and many more. Also just in the first round the draft class had 53 all star selections 4 hall of famers, and 7 mvp's. -
Magic's Tragic Announcment
On this day in the NBA MAgic Earving Johnson announced his retirement form the NBA due to a case of the HIV virus found in is system. It was found in a physical for performence about a week before the press conference where he would announce his leave. He would later go and play in the Olympics dispite his NBA retirement and win the gold with the most legendary USA basketball team with the "Dream Team" in the summer of '92. -
The plethora of Lakers Championships
From the moment the Lakers aquired Hall of Fame big man Shaquille O'neal Laker-land started to buzz with champinship murrmurs, and after aquiring futer Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant in the 2nd most legendary NBA draft of '96 the Lakers steam rolled their way to a 3-peat of championships, from 2000-2002. -
NBA turns 70!
In a matter of just one year the historical sports league of the NBA will be in existance for 70 sucessful years. Thus, making it the 4th oldest sports league in America after a hard long impovement to become the league it is today.
