Evolution of the Microwave
-
The Microwave is Almost Finished
The microwave was almost ready to be sold. It was 5.5 feet tall and 750 lbs. It also cost $5000. But it wasn't going to be used for domestic use for a few years. -
The Microwave Was Ready
The microwave now had a timer, two cooking speeds, and it could brown your food. Tappan sold the first microwave oven for domestic use for $1,295 each. People were a little unsure about it because they didn’t want something so expensive that they thought leaked “radar waves”. -
The Microwave Adopted Some New Features
Tappan added a stove to the Microwave oven. It now cost $1,000. It was now the first Microwave Cooking Center. -
Microwaves Became Safer
Because of the Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act, microwave companies had to undergo some changes and safety precautions so they could keep selling the product. -
Microwaves Twenty Years Later
The microwave has gotten significantly smaller over the years and now the standard microwave cost about $89.99 or $183 today. -
Microwaves Today
Most microwaves were about 1-2 cubic feet and cost about $100, however fancier models that had different settings cost up to $500. They could heat food for any amount of time you wanted, had different settings, speeds, and could even tell you the time.
