The First Electronic Television
A young man names Philo Farnsworth invented the first electronic TV. He made this discovery in San Francisco on September 7, 1927. This was a huge discovery because before Farnsworth's TV all of the TV's were mechanical, and the pictures were rather blurry. Also mechanical televisions only produced small images, and this increase in technology improved everyday citizens lives and also led the path to later significant innovations. -
First Color Television
CBS created the first reliable color TV in 1940. This was color TV in its testing stage. Later in 1941 RCA (NBC) started their tests. Color TV brought emotional significance, and allowed a more real view of the thing being broadcasted. -
First Wireless Remote Control
Eugene J. Polley of Zenith Electronics invented the first wireless remote control, the Flash-Matic, in 1955. Five years before Polley invented the first remote control, unfortunately because of the wire it was unpopular. Soon enough all households had their own. -
First Flat Screen TV
The first Flat Screen TV was co-invented. Univeristy of Illinois' Donald Bitzer and Gene Slottow worked together to change history. They made this innovation in 1964. The Japanese were on the forefront of High Definition, also known as HD. NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) invented HDTV in 1970. It was later introduced in the United States in the late 80s. It was made official in 1993 by the Digital HDTV Grand Alliance. High Definition was a huge improvement because it made TV much better quality and clearer. -
4K
4K resolution is defined as 4096 x 2160 pixels; a 1.9:1 aspect ratio. The Dalsa Corporation built the first 4K camera to shoot 4K quality video in 2003. A huge development was when 4K was brought to movie theatres in 2011, and then to home entertainment systems in 2012 by Sony. Netflix has recently jumped on the 4K bandwagon and started streaming House of Cards and Breaking Bad in 4K. 4K allows TV viewers to feel like a part of the show because of the high quality of the picture. -
