Evolution of the Cessna 172

  • The Original Expectaitions

    The Original Expectaitions
The Cessna flight manufacturer originally made the 172 and released it around the same time as the 177 Cardinal. The company released them at the same time so that the 177 would be the highlight and the moneymaker, and while it was, the 172 became easily the most hyped plane ever. It became so successful and is now the most seccessfuly mass produced general aviation aircraft in the history of aviation as we know it. http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/Cessna/c172%20c175.htm

    Introducing The Cessna 172
The Cessna 172 is a four seater single prop aircraft meant for personal, training, or utility use. No source used as I fly these for flight school.
  • The World Record Flight

    The World Record Flight
In 1958 two pilots by the names of John Cook and Robert Tim performed an endurance flight to see just how long they could stay in the air with their Cessna 172 aircraft. They stayed skyward for 64 days, 22 hours, and 19 minutes before finally having to land. That goes to show just how reliable the Cessna 172 is and how applicable it would be for flight training as it manages to keep on flying. http://www.nycaviation.com/2013/10/cessna-172-skyhawk-an-insight-into-the-facts-and-history/

The Beginning of the Cessna 172
The Cessna 172 began as a Cessna 170, a taildragger aircraft developed in the 1950's. The biggest change surfaced in 1959, only 3 years after it originally surfaced, was when they took the taildragger landing gear off and replaced it with the newer tricycle landing gear which made it much better for flight training as that was the style landing gear that most manufacturers were beginning to switch to. http://www.flyingmag.com/aircraft/pistons/evolution-cessna-172

The Cessna Joins the US Air Force
In 1964 the Cessna 172 joined the Air Force and they deemed it the T-41 Mascelero. The T-41 was used to teach cadets how to fly and how to recover the aircraft from different situations. Sadly in 1993 the Air Force started phasing the aircraft out for faster, more nimble aircraft. http://www.airspacemag.com/history-of-flight/cessnas-golden-oldie-10240010/?no-ist
  • The G1000

    The G1000
The Cessna 172 gained a massive upgrade in 2006 from older avionics to the amazing G100 cockpit suite with a glass cockpit. The 172 has kept the G1000 ever since then into the more modern production, it allows pilots information on weather, traffic, terrain, and any other information the pilots need to keep the aircraft airborne for the smoothest flight possible. http://fly-aaft.com/aircraft-and-simulator/cessna-172s-g1000-glass-panel/
  • The Electric 172

    The Electric 172
In July 2010 Cessna announced its partnership with Bye Energy to create a fully electric version of the 172 as a proof of concept. In July of the next year Bye announced the the electric Cessna made successful attempts to taxi and move around the airport. In 2012 Bye announced that they had completed multiple successful test flights with their electric version of the 172. http://www.boldmethod.com/blog/lists/2015/02/10-facts-about-the-cessna-172-skyhawk/

    Cessna 172's Perception
Mechanics and pilots alike love the Cessna 172 not only because it is reliable, but also because the aircraft is so easily repaired as parts are readily available at any moment, it is extremely widely produced and has been dominating the general aviation industry for a very long time, 60 years to be exact. https://disciplesofflight.com/cessna-172-skyhawk/
