Bare hand.
The first ever baseball glove was the bare hand. People didn't have the knowledge, technology, or time to make a glove. -
First Glove Ever
The first glove was just a small layer of leather over the palm and lower fingers. It was not innovative and not that useful. -
2nd design
The 2nd design looked similar to a oven mitt. It was a little more protective then the first but still not that useful. -
3rd design
This one was just a complete layer of leather over the hand. It was very tight and the technology made it easier to make. -
4th design
This glove added a web between the index finger and thumb. It started to become more effective and efficient. -
5th design
The web became slightly more advanced. This one was not much different then the last one. -
6th design
The web became a lot more advanced with a double post web. Their was a lot of padding and but the glove design still needed two hands to catch. -
7th design
The glove starts to head towards the modern day baseball glove. There is a strap to tighten or loosen the glove on your hand. The webbing is more advanced making a deeper pocket. -
Design 8
Baseball has become huge in the United States so the glove is more advanced. The quality of the leather has advanced. The glove is more durable and has a lot of protection for the hand. The web has changed a little and is good for catching the ball. Wilson is the main glove producer. -
9th Design
The glove is very similar to the last one the leather quality has increased. Wilson is still producing the most gloves. -
10th design
The glove starts to really look modern. The webbing and pocket is sewn together. The pocket has gotten deeper. The inside is more comfortable. Spalding and Nakona start making gloves. -
Last design
This is the modern day glove. The pocket is perfect. The glove sizes are different for different positions. The leather is the best of the best. More than 20 companies make gloves. You can get a glove in almost every color. The inside is extremely comfortable.
