Laika the dog was the first being in space Russian leaders wanted the shuttle to be built within a month so the shuttle was hastily built. Because of this, in space the temperature control failed and Laika died within 5 hours After launch. -

The capsule was round and made of an aluminum alloy so it would not burn in the return. The capsule was very cramped so there was limited movement possible. The cosmonaut who was in it was Yuri Gagarin. -
