This is the era where composers wanted their music to touch the listener. They wanting to create feeling and emotion. Musicians began to make a living on their own. -

Classical Era
This era was when composers really became important, creating a technique of musical notation similar to the one we use today. Piano was invented and became primary keyboard instrument. -
1600 BCE
Baroque Era
This era was where famous composers like Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi were born. Instruments began to be used in churches and with the invention of the printing press composers could share their music and write with a more similar music style. -
1300 BCE
Renaissance Era
This period known as the "rebirth." Music began to be broken down into two groups, sacred and secular. Musicians and composers made a by having patronages. -
800 BCE
Medieval Era
In this era music was very simple. The use of instruments was frowned on by the Catholic Church who ran things at this time. This was also the beginning of written music by hand. -
500 BCE
Ancient Music
This time period refers to music of ancient civilization, Greece and Rome. No written forms of music but certain music was played.
