    It was made for skiers who wanted to listen to music. It looked like a clear box with wires inside and was strapped to the front of your chest, similar to a backpack. The pack was actually made out of nylon, not metal or plastic like later versions of music players. The machine itself is actually very heavy compared to the modern day IPod Touch 5.     In 1979, Sony created the Walkman. It made playing music much easier by making a cassette player pocket size (big pocket.) It needed a cassette to play music. Had similar buttons such as play, rewind, fast forward, etc.

    The first commercially released music player that could handle the MP3 files was the MP3 player. It could not handle a lot of songs like the devices today.
