    Athenian Democracy

    Between 750-350 BCE, ancient Greeks had the first democracy by trying to involve everybody in the affairs of the city (This excluded women and slaves)
  • 509 BCE

    Rome

    Rome was declared a republic in 509 BCE, and rich people took over the government system. They were, however, overthrown by the common people, so while the rich (Patricians) were still mostly in power, the common people had a vote in city affairs.

    Beginning of Parliament

    The king is overthrown in the European monarchy and forced to give up his divine right, making a parliament in the process

    Magna Carta

    The king was forced to sign the Magna Carta, which restricted his power over townspeople.

    The American Revolution

    A revolution occurring in America that started the first democracy.
  • French Revolution

    A revolution created in the spirit of democracy, much like the American Revolution. However, most actions in the revolution were very dictator-like, where they would use guillotines to kill anybody who opposed their opinion, eventually leading to the ruling of Napoleon, a French​ dictator.
