Stone Keep castles replaced Motte and Bailey
Since Motte and Bailey castles suffered from burning up due to enemies with fire arrows, castles built completely out of stone were introduced because it had a better form of protection. The Stone Keep had a thick stone wall surrounding a keep. The wall had arrow slits so arrows could be fire by defenders while being protected. Motes of water and draw bridges were still being used. -

Warwick Castle was Built
William Conqueror built the Warwick castle in 1068. Warwick was a Motte and Bailey, built out of wood. -

William Conqueror built the tower of London
William and his men started with a Motte and Bailey, but later it was remodeled into complete stone. It was used to keep prisoners locked up. -

Chateau Gaillard is built
Built by Richard the Lionheart, this castle is known to be quiet exquisite. The castle sits on a hill approxomatily 90 meters high. -

Concentric Castles were introduced
Designed and Built by King Edward in 1278, the concentric castle offered the best defence out of any form of castles. It had two walls protecting the keep. It used a draw bridge and a mote filled with water. -

Warwick Castle is Attacked
The castle built by William the Conqueror was attacked during the 'Barons War'. The castle suffered from a big amount of damage, but it was able to withstand most of the damage because of it converting from a Motte and Bailey to a stone castle -
First Form of Castles
The first form of castles were built. It was called the Motte and Bailey and was built completely out of wood. It had two parts: The Motte and the Bailey. The Bailey was the are were people lived and animals were kept. The Motte was a mountain with a look out tower ontop. The castle was surrounded by a wooden fence and a mote full of water.
