    In 1875, the Reciprocity Treaty happened. It allowed Hawaii to sell sugar to the United States without paying taxes, dues, or duties. They were able to sell sugar and get paid without losing any money.

    The construction of Iolani Palace was complete, it became the official residence of the Hawaiian Monarchs.

    Bayonet Constitution
    King Kalakaua was forced to sign a new constitution that gave up most of the Hawaiian Monarchy power. He was forced to sign this constitution at gunpoint.
  • The Wilcox Rebellion

    The Wilcox Rebellion
    Robert Wilcox organized a rebellion to revive and give powers back to the Hawaiian Monarchs. They forced King Kalakaua to renew the constitution of 1864. They surrounded the palace while doing so.

    The overthrow of the monarchy started by Lorrin Thurstorn. Most of the people that deposed the Queen were from the United States and Europe. Wilson asked for warrants to arrest all member councils of Committee Safety. They wanted to make Hawaii under a Martial Law.
