  • The Vietnam War 1955-1975

    The Vietnam War 1955-1975
    Vietnamese movement led by Ho Chi Minh was a Cold War military conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from November 1st-April 30, 1975 when Saigon fell. This war followed the First Indochina War and was fought by communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the United States and other capitalist nations.     The board in Arkansas won a court order to admit 9 AA students to Central High a school with 2000 white students.The governor ordered troops from National Guard to prevent them from coming in the school. The mob pushed Eisenhower to his breaking point.He ordered the US Army to send troops to protect ,escort them for the school year.

    Black power became the new focus of the civil rights movement in the mid-1960s, other groups were growing similarly impatient with incremental reforms. Student activists grew more radical. They took over college campuses, organized massive antiwar demonstrations and occupied parks and other public places. Some even made bombs and set campus buildings on fire. Some young people “dropped out” of political life altogether. These “hippies” grew their hair long and practiced “free love.”

    The Black Panther Party 1966-1982
    This group believed in equal rights for African Americans The organization was originally formed as part of the Black Power and Civil Rights movements to aggressively bring the truth of racism, discrimination and lack of opportunity for Blacks to a national agenda. It was also to protect African American communities from police brutality. They became a group of protesters who had a growing anger with the non-violent ways of Civil Rights.

    Kent State Shooting
    A student rally was scheduled on the Kent State University campus. Before the rally began, the National Guard ordered the crowd to disperse. Since the students refused to leave, the National Guard attempted to use tear gas on the crowd. Because of the shifting wind, the tear gas was ineffective, so they point their rifles toward them.This scattered the crowd After dispersing the crowd, the National Guards stood around for about ten minutes and then turned around and began to retrace their steps.

    Skylab was America’s first space station. Launched unmanned on May 14, 1973 from the Kennedy Space Center, Skylab was built and supplied to hold three separate crews of three astronauts over the course of seven months. However, the whole program was nearly ruined when the micrometeoroid shield broke off during launch and damaged parts of the Skylab. The combined teamwork of scientists on the ground and astronauts aboard Skylab were able to not only save it, but make it an all-around success.

    The battle between the U.S. and the Soviet Union to be the "best" in exploring space.The space race is significant due to it's role in the Cold War, a period of tension between the USA and USSR.This race was considered an important part of the Cold War it showed the world which country had the best science, technology, and economic system.

    Ronald Reagan's Attempted Assasination
    Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley Jr. outside the Hilton Hotel in Washingtonvjust after the president had addressed the Building and Construction Workers Union. Hinckley had shot Reagan with a 22 revolver with exploding bullets.But he was only ten feet away from Reagan when he started shooting.     Who is Sally Ride?
    Sally Ride became the first American woman in space when she launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 18th on board space shuttle. A pioneer of the final frontier, she charted a new course for Americans to follow, not only into the country’s space program, but inspiring young people mostly girls in careers like science,math, & engineering.     Economic separation between powers in the East (Soviet union) & the west ( US, NATO) also caused tension, along with the threat of nuclear war. The Communist Party of the Soviet Union lost control & was banned following an abortive attempt in August 1991.   • World Trade Center Bombing

    World Trade Center Bombing
    The bombing was a terrorist attack when a truck bomb exploded below the North Tower of the Trade Center in New York City.The explosion created a hole 200 feet by 100 feet 7 stories deep. It caused the PATH station ceiling to collapse. The 1200 lbs. bomb was in a Ryder truck in a parking garage under the Trade Center. About 50,000 people were removed. Ramzi Yousef ordered the organization of the bombing."Avenge the sufferings Palestinian people had endured at the hands of US-aided Israel."
