Invention of The Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney invented the first cotton gin. It helped with the production of cotton. The gin separates cotton from seeds. The cotton gin increased the demand for slaves in the South.

The Missouri Compromise
Created by Henry Clay. It was a bill that granted Missouri to be a slave state,but slavery would to be prohibited in the Louisiana purchase.The compromise made the North free states and the South slave states.Between the anti-slavery and pro-slavery there was some tension.

Tariff of 1828

William Lloyd Garrison published The Liberator to show others around the world that he was against slavery. This book was bought buy most free black African-Americans. The Liberator was the most influential book about during the times of slavery.

Nat Turner's Rebellion
A black American slave that lead an effective rebellion. He and around 75 other slaves killed 51 white people on his orders. He hid for six weeks until he was found and hung at Jerusalem,Virginia.

A US sectional crisis. Between South Carolina and the federal government. Declared that the Tariff of 1828 and 1832 was unconstitutional.This was caused by the introduction of the Tariff of 1828. -
Wilmot Proviso
Wilmot Proviso was created to eliminate the slavery in lands of Mexico. David Wilmot proposed this amendment to the bill but it was ignored. Eventually this amendment was passed through the house of representatives but when it reached senate it was shut down.

Compromise of 1850

The election was held on a Tuesday. Abraham Lincoln defeated Southern Democrat John C. Breckinridge, Democrat Stephen A. Douglas, and Constitutional Union candidate John Bell. There was an electoral split between Northern and Southern Democrat. Months after Lincoln election the stage was set for American Civil war. -

The Fort was tension between the confederacy and union for several months. Supply ships would be shot at if they were going towards the Fort. Confederate were the first to shoot at fort Sumter because the leader of the fort wouldnt hand it over to them.This was also the first battle to the start of the American Civil War. -
