Dred was a slve who was sued for his freedom. The Supreme Court ruled that African Americans were not citizens but property. This increased the tension between the Northern and Southern states. He lost. -
Lincoln-Douglass Debate
Lincoln and Douglass were running for the Senator of Illinois. They debated over slavery. Douglass won, but Lincoln became nationally famous. -
Harper's Ferry
Virginia had a slave revolt led by John Brown who siezed federal arsenal. He wanted to end slavery and became a hero. -
Election of 1860
The US is voting for the president. Lincoln won. The South seceded and called its new government the Confederate States of America with Jefferson Davis as their president. The CSA constitution said it supported states' rightes and slavery. -

This was the first battle. Lincoln sending supplies to the fort set off the war.
