    The second red scare was driven by Americans fearing the spread of communism after WW2. Many Americans feared that specifically the Soviet Union were aiming to spread Communism worldwide.

    The foundations for the NATO were created when the North Atlantic Treaty was signed. It's prime purpose was to secure peace amongst Europe to prevent another world war.
