    The Yalta Conference was a major part of the Cold war and divided Germany into four zones of occupation. The zones were controlled by the Us, Soviet Union, France, and the United Kingdom respectively.

    Potsdam Conference
    The Potsdam Conference took place in the Soviet occupation zone. It was intended to allow the three leading allies to plan postwar peace.

    The Berlin Blockade was one of the first big international crisis's that came from the Cold War. It was an attempt by the Soviet union to try and limit the travel of the Us, Uk, and France to their respective sectors of Germany.
  • Creation of NATO

    NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was created to ensure peace and safety in Europe from the Soviet Union. It states that allies of a country will help protect it if the country is invaded, in war, etc.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was started over a conflict between North Korea and South Korea where North Korea invaded the South Korean boarder. The US went into the Korean war because they were concerned that the Soviet Union and communist China might have encouraged the invasion.

    The Cuban Revolution was a political and military effort to try and overthrow the Cuban government. It started after a coup in 1953 and and the failed mass strike in opposition that followed.

    The Space Race was a Race between the USA and the Soviet Union to see who could land on the moon first. It originated from the ballistic missile-based nuclear arms race between the two countries.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war was a fight between Vietnam and the US in order tp stop the spread of communism in Vietnam. The Vietnam war ended when president Nixon signed the Paris Peace Accords, which ended direct US involvement in the Vietnam War.

    The Suez Crisis was when Israeli armed forces pushed Egypt back to the Suez Canal which was used as a waterway controlled by Europe. This caused the second Arab-Israeli war leading to Israel invading Egypt, followed by the UK and France.

    On May 1 1960, a United States spy air plane was shot down by the Soviet Union. The spy plane was being used to take photographs of Soviet territory.

    The Bay of Pigs invasion was a US invasion on Cuba in order to destroy their communist government. The Bay of Pigs invasion failed because of failure to spot coral reefs, which caused landing issues.

    The Chernobyl Disaster took place in Russia and was a nuclear disaster. The Chernobyl disaster caused a lot of damaged and killed hundreds of thousands people, and the land today is still radioactive.

    The fall of the Soviet Union occurred on December 12, 1991 and is what ended the Cold War. The fall of the Soviet Union was caused by an unsuccessful coup against Gorbachev.
