  • Creation of Israel

    Creation of Israel
    Jews had become a growing pressence in Palestine and were pressing for their own nation, however the Palestinians opposed. The UN recommended the divide of Palestine because they had sympathy for the Jews, but this offer was rejected by Palestine. The Palestine Liberation Organization pushed for the formation of a Palestinian state, which was led by Yasir Arafat. This will lead campaign of terroist aggression.

    Berlin Airlift

    The Soviet Union cut off all traffic and water to West Berlin in hope that the Allies will give up West Berlin or idea of reunifying Germany. American and British officals fly in the supplies for 11 months which causes the Soviets to lift the blockade.

    Formation of NATO
    There were 12 nations which included the United States and Canada that signed NATO. The defensive alliance was formed due to fears of possible Soviet aggression.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    The CIA trained anit-Castro Cuban exiles to invade Cuba. Their goal was to overthrow the government, however the invaders are defeated easily. They did not get the necessary support from US. This convinces the Soviets that the US will not resist their exspansion into Latin America.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    In 1962 the Soviets secretly built missile site in Cuba. This was discovered by a US spy plane and was viewed as a threat considering Cuba is only 90 miles from Florida. The US demands their removal and blockade Cuba to prevent Soviets from installing more missiles. This casuses threats of a nuclear war, however the Soviels agree to remove the missiles if the US doesn't invade Cuba.

    Arab-Israeki War (6 Day War)

    The reason the 6 Day War started was due to Egypt seizing the Suez Canal. The Egyptians were defeated as the result and Israel seizes Gaza Strip and the West Bank and Jordan belonged to Egypt.

    Arab-Israeli War (Yom Kippur War)

    The Arab attack Israel on the religious holiday of Yom Kippur and Israel was not prepared. After several weeks of fighting both sides came to a truce, however this created even more tension between Israel and Arab.
  • Assassination of Egyptian President Sadat

    During a military parade Egyptian President Sadat was shot by Muslim extremists.
  • Tiananmen Square Protest

    Mostly young Chinese students protest in central Beijing to protest for greater democracy. Chinese troops marched through Tiananmen Square shooting into the crowds of protesters. Some students ran and others attempted to fight back.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    Hungary allowed vacationing East Germans to travel to Austria, who then traveled to West Germany. East Germany closed its borders which causes protests to erupt. The new leader of East Germany attempts to restore stability by allowing people to leave. This results in the collapse of the Communist Party.
