Afghanistan was becoming way too democratic and the USSR decided to invade them/abduct mujahideen. It resulted in a stale mate with mujahideen getting away and USSR troops occupying cities. -

The fall of the Berlin wall was a huge group of people after a communist spokesman said that they were free to go west, then they tore down the wall.
