The Chinese Revolution
The Chinese Revolution occured from 1946-1950. This period of time included when communism took over the mainland of China. The Republican government was pushed to Taiiwan. Ciang Kai-shek led the people to Taiwan to escape the communism. As communism took over, people got to see the beliefs of communist people. This stirred up the cold war. -
Korean War
The Korean War lasted about 3 years, this was a war between South and North Korea. South Korea supported the UN and North Korea which the peoples rupublic of China and Soviet Unionn supported. North attacked the South and fought at the 38th parallel. The U.S protected the South and tensions built with communism. This tension built up to a factor of the Cold War. -
Hungarian Revolution
This was also know as the uprising in Hungary and Czechoslovakia many years. This was a national wide revolt against the Republic of Hungary and the Soviets. The revolt spread quickly. and the government collapesed and formed into militas to battle the State Security and Soviet Troops. This led to the cold war by causing the Soviets to strenghtehen their resolve, having tight a grasp on territories they tok over,it intimidated any other from trying. -
Sputnik launched (and the space race)
This was the first artificial earth satellite, which broadcsted radio pulses. Soviets had launched it and it was visible all around the earth and its radio waves were detectable. This led to the cold war because the lauch of Sputnik caused new political, military, and scientifice technologies/devolopments. -
U2 Spy Plane shot down
In 1960 the U-2 incident was during the Cold war on May 1st, 1960. We were shot down over the Air Space in the Soviet Union Francis Gary Powers was the survivor. U.S denied it right away, but the US admitted that it was a survelliance air plane. Unfortunately one of those spy planes was shot down and the pilot was captured which led to the cold war incident. -
The Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was constructed to seperate Wes Berlin from the East and enclose the West, it was served to prevent the massive emigration. This intimated the Cold war because the Soviets had half of Berlin, and Americans had the other half. It caused tension. -
Cuban Missles Crisis
The U.S had missiles in Turkey, which were in firing range into Moscow. The USSR mad an alliance with Cuba and had brought missiles into Cuba so they were firing range of the United States. Basically Kennedy and the USSR agreed that U.S will take the missiles out of Turkey and Soviets will take there’s out of Cuba. There was a lot of tension that was held between these two countries, equalling the biggest part of the Cold War -
Russia invades Afghanistan
This lasted 9 years starting in December and ending in February of 1989. This was fought between the Soviet Afgahn forces and multinational insurgants, which were trained by China and Pakistan. These insurgents were given weapons and billions of dollars from the U.S, nations and Saudi Arabi. It played a role in the Cold War by the withdrawl of the Soviet Forces from Afgahnistan.
