The Marshall Plan was created so that when a country is destroyed in a war, the nations responsible have to help them with rebulding costs and fix their economy. -
The Berlin Wall Goes Up
The Berlin Wall was built (very quickly) to keep the East Germans from fleeing the West Germany. The wall was basically a division of communism and democracy. -
Berlin Airlift
Germany had a blockade on west berlin. The U.S. had dropped supplies (food, water, medicin etc.) for berlin. -
Creation of NATO
NATO ( North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was created to prevent Communism to spread. -
Soviets create & test nuclear bomb
USSR tests their first nuclear bomb on a remote piece of land. The U.S. is frightened that this bomb might be used on them. -
Korean War
U.S. came to help South Korea because they were being invaded by North Korea. North Korea was being helped by the USSR and China. The war ended with a tie. -
Vietnam War
The U.S. and South Korea Teamed up to fight the communist Viet Cong and North Korea. The U.S. was defeated and North Korea remained communist. -
US creates and tests the hydrogen bomb
U.S. detonates the first hydrogen bomb.This gave the U.S. and advantage in the arms race with the USSR. -
Soviet launch Sputnik
Soviets beat the U.S. by launching a satalite into space. The U.S. was sopposed to be more technologically advanced than the Soviets. -
Bay of Pigs
America invates Cuba and tries to overthrow Fidel Castro. !300 soldiers landed on the southern coast but were quickly defeated by Castro's army. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The United States and USSR fought for 13 days because the USSR put nuclear missiles in Cuba. The U.S. put a blockade on Cuba to prevent more nuclear missiles in Cuba. Both kennedy and Khrushchev agreed to remove the nuclear missiles. -
Creation of the Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw pact was created eight nations including the USSR. It stated that if one of the nations get attacked, the others will be there to provide military help. -
The Six Day War
Arab forces surrounds Isreal so they respond by attacking Egypt and Syria. On june 11, he U.S. put up a cease fire, but by that time isreal doubbled in time. -
German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall
East Germany eventually decided to let people cross the boarder into West germany. Many people began breaking the wall and eventually it was tore down. East germany and West Germany finally joined into one Germany. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union finaly came to an end when 11 of their republics decided to declare independance and form their own countries.Gorbachev resigned from his job and the soviet Union came to an end.
