  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine stated that we would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military to prevent their falling into the Soviet Sphere. For years Britian had supported Greece but was now near bankruptcy and had to dramatically reduce their involvment.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was the European Recovery System. The Marshall plan aided where the United States gave monetary (money support) support to help rebuild European Economies after the end of WWII. The plan was in operation for 4 years begining in April 1948. The goal of the United States was to help rebuild the war devistated region.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The cold war had just started but turned hot fast.The war was becoming quite expensive. North Korea's invasion on South Korea brought the action of United Nations Police Action. When that happened heavy military and naval involvement by the United States. The gathered troops to defeat North Korea's fast moving army and respond the to fast spreading communism. In early 1951 negotiatins began but took another two years to complete. Only July 27, 1953 negotiations ended and fighting concluded.
  • Rosenberg Spy Case

    Rosenberg Spy Case
    During the war Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage during war time and were then executed on June 19, 1953. They were caught trying toi pass information about the atomic bombs to the Soviet Union. Those are the only two people in American history executed for commiting espionage during war time.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw pact was originally named The Warsaw Treaty Organization of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutal Assitance. The Warsaw pact was a mutal defense treaty between eight communist countries and Central and Eastern Eupore. The Warsaw Pact was the military complement and was a reaction from the Soviet Union to intregration of East Germany.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    After the first Indochina War, fought between North Vietnam and other communist vs South Vietnam and other anti-communist countries. The US looked at the involvment of us to prevent the take over of comunism. American Involvement in the war peaked in 1968. Even though a deal was signed in 1973, Paris Peace Accords. the fighting still continued. The involvement of the US military ended on August 15, 1973. Guerilla Warfare was used during this, causing high fatalites.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    The Bay of Pigs was an unsucessful military invasion of Cuba. This was an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro, leader of Cuba. A full scale invasion by American-trained Cubans had not gone well. The American-trained cubans had fled their homes when Fidel Castro gained power. The troops were badly outnumberd by Castro's troops. The American-trained cubans surrendered after less than 24 hours of fighting.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a time of tensin between the Soviet Union, United States, and Cuba during the Cold War. The Soviet Union began building missiles on Cuba during 1962. In 1962, American ships blocked the Soviet Union from carrying missiles to or from Cuba. The Soviet Union and Cuba agreed to take away the missiles if American promised not to attack.

    Six Day War
    The war began on June 5th after Isreal launched a suprise bomb attack on Eygpt after a period of high tension. Within Six days Isreal had won a peice of land. Isreal had taken control of the Gaza Strip.
  • Apollo 11/ US sends man to Moon

    Apollo 11/ US sends man to Moon
    Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first Americans to be air lifted to the moon. Both spent about 2 hours outside the space craft collecting about 48 pounds of lunar material. Apollo 11 was put into motion by the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Apollo space craft had three parts to it: command module, service module, and lunar module.
  • Nixon Visits China

    Nixon Visits China
    When Nixon visited China it was an important step to formally normalize relations between the United States and the People's Republic of China. it had also marked the first time a president had vitisted the People's Republic of China. It ended 25 years of seperation between the two. On July 15, 1971, Nixon had announced the next year that he would be visitng PRC and between Febuary 21-28, the formally were not enemies anymore.

    The Fall of the Berlin Wall
    There had been signs that communism was falling but East Germany insisted that they needed a slight change rather than a drastic revolution. New points were opened November 9, 1989. Citizens were shocked that people the border was now open. Citizens began taking actions with their own hammer and chissels.
  • German Reunification

    After WWII German was divided into 4 different zones including France, Great Britian, United States, and the Soviet Union. The French, British, and American zones were made into East Germany and the Soviet Union was reffered to as West Germay. West Germany's economy was growing much faster than east economy so people fleed to West Germany. To stop emigration East Forces closed the borders in 1961. This part of border became known as part of the Iron Curitan.

    Collapse of The Soviet Union
    The Soviet union had disolved into 15 seperate countries. A few before Christmas eleven countries got together to and declared that they would create a common wealth of independence. The great Soviet Union had fallen due to radical reforms.

    Creation Of NATO
    NATO stands North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO was created because of a threat by the Soviet Union. It was also a part of a broader effort to slow down the expansionism of the Europe, and encouraging European politcal intergration, or figuring out a way to work together between Democrats and Republicans.
