A book writen by political activist Paine declared that the colonies were too big, or ould grow to large to be governed by the British. Book held widespread support among revolutionaries. -
Signing of the Declaration of Independence
Members of the Second Continental Congress signed a decree of separation from the British government. Declaring the Colonies as their own sovereign nation. -
Winter at Valley Forge
Washington's army resided in Valley Forge, where they could see British in Philly. They ran low on al resources and struggled through the winter. -
Surrender at Yorktown
British troops led by Charles Cornwallis were expecting naval support at Yorktown. They were forced to surrender when that never came. -
Treaty of Paris
Peace treaty between belligerents ended war. Colonies were ceded generous amounts of land.
