The Enlightenment reshaped the way people thought about things such as equality and different rights. It ended up producing many things like scientific discoveries and laws. -
French & Indian War
The American Indians wanted to keep control of their land but the French claimed the Upper Ohio River Valley. The British ended up winning the war and claimed the lands hat had been claimed by France. -
Stamp Act
Parliament passed the Stamp Act, which meant they would have to pay taxes on all the printed paper they used. It was later on repealed. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Act caused taxes for glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The colonists weren't happy and organized boycotts of British goods as they wanted to pressure the Parliament into repealing this act. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight which was caused by taxation and angry colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
American colonists weren't happy as Britain tried to force "taxation without representation" on them so they dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws that were passed by the British Parliament. They occurred after the Boston Tea Party, and it was passed to punish Massachusetts colonists for being defiant during the protest in the Tea Act. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
The battles happened as the British ordered troops to take weapons away from Concord. They ended up succeeding and took the weapons back to Boston, which would start the American Revolutionary War. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The British decided to take Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill as they were trying to take control, and the Americans heard about it and went to defend their hill. They were defeated by the British during this battle. -
Treaty of Paris Signed
It was a treaty signed between the American colonies and Great Britain. It ended the American Revolution. -
3/5 Compromise
It was a compromise which stated that for every five slaves in a state, three would be included in the population census. -
Bill of Rights Adopted
The Bill of Rights is the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution, and it was adopted, which meant more freedom for certain things.
