  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The British Parliament created a tax on all pieces of papers that the colonists bought. The tax was on products like newspapers, playing cards, legal documents, licenses, and other publications. This created anger among the colonists which resulted in protests.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Five civilians were killed and six others were injured by British soldiers firing on a crowd in Boston. The soldiers had been stationed in Boston and the colonists were not happy. A crowd of colonists had formed that day and were verbally abusing the soldiers. The fed up soldiers then fired on the crowd without command. This sparked a lot of anger in the colonies making this a major event that contributed to the development of the Revolutionary War.

    As a protest against the British raising taxes on tea, Samual Adams and the Sons of Liberty raided three ships in the Bsoton harbor, dumping 342 chest of tea overboard. This created more tension between America and Britain and resulted in the Coercive Acts in 1774 to be passed by the British.

    As punishment for the Boston Tea Party, the British Parliament implimented a series of punitive laws on Massachusetts. These laws took away the colony's historic rights and self government. This created anger among all the colonies and helped lead to the start of American Revolution.

    Battle at Lexington and Concord
    These were the first battles that took place in the Revolutionary War, they happened in Massachusetts, Britian had claimed this colony to be a rebel. The battle had ultimately been a fail, Britain did not prevent war, they had started it. This battle's first shot is known as 'the shot heard around the world'.

    Winter at Valley Forge
    Valley Forge is located in Pennsylvania and it's the location of the military camp where the American Continental Army stayed through the winter of 1777-1778. This had been a very harsh winter that killed nearly 2,500 American soldiers by the end of February 1778. Many died from starvation, disease, or freezing.

    States Pass the Articles of Confederation
    The Articles of Confederation were an agreement signed by all 13 colonies that stated that the United States of America was a confederation of sovereign states. This was also used as the country's first constitution.On March 4, 1789 this was replaced with the US Constitution and America changed to having a federal government instead of just a general government.

    Surrender at Yorktown
    The Battle at Yorktown was the last major battle of the revolutionary war. It lasted from September 28-October 19. With the help of the French, the US army was able to capture the British's army led by General Cornwallis and get them to surrender. This surrender then led to the Treaty of Paris and America's independence.

    This was the agreement that ended the war between Britain and America. This treaty stated that America was now it's own free country among many other priviledges. It also created compromises between the two countries with things like water ways and trade.
