Colonists reach Virginia
After four months of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from England, the 3 ships carrying 150 passengers/crew members reach Virginia. When they get there, they form a settlement called Jamestown in honor of King James. -
More Colonists Arrive
The Virginia Company sent 600 colonists to Virginia, which included women and children this time, to Jamestown to help with the settlement.
Note: Althought the date says March, it is only known that they arrived sometime during the spring. -
Tobacco Becomes "Grown Gold"
A colonist of Jamestown named John Rolfe was experimenting with tobacco seeds from South America and a week that the local Native Americans grew. He ended up creating a high-quality tobacco that England became obsessed with.

Headright System is Created
The Virginia Company needed workers to help grow tobacco, they created the headright system. Under this, any new arrival was granted 50 acres of land and 50 more for each familiy member who came too. This system actracted many workers to move to Jamestown -
Bacon's Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon was fed up with Native Americans killing colonists. He asked the government for help, but they refused, so Bacon gathered an army. They army marched into Jamestown to protest this denial. The army ended up setting fire to the town, and soon overtook it. Bacon later died from an illness.
