    Harold Hardarda's army arrive about mid-september.

    Death of Edward The Confessor

    Most believe he died from old age (following strokes) and Edward was then buried in Westminster Abbey.

    The New King

    Harold Godwinson is then pronounced King.

    Strong Winds

    Duke William's army (who has planned for conquest), is held up by strong winds as they attempt to cross the sea.

    Mistake

    King Harold, believing that William will not try to cross the sea, disbands his army.

    The Battle of Fulford Gate

    Harald Hardrada's army reaches York where a battle is held against an English army. The Normans win and York surrenders.
  • Sep 20, 1066

    The Battle of Stamford Bridge

    King Harold Godwinson's army finally catches up to Hardrada's army. Another battle is held and the English win. Hardrada is killed.

    Duke William

    Duke William's army finally occupies Hastings.
