    The last straw leading up to WWI was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg in Sarajevo

    Austria-Hungary sends an ultimatum to Serbia concerning the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. Serbia would have to let Austria-Hungary perform a full investigation of the assassination and Serbia would not be allowed to publicize Austrian propaganda.

    Once Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia, Britain tried to ease conflict by issuing an international mediation. Instead, Germany began to mobilize their troops. Russia urged Germany not to, and then began mobilizing their own troops just in case. Because of this, Germany began to mobilize their own troops.
