    The Great Northern War
    Peter the Great felt prepared enough to attack Sweden to ensure Russia's way to the Baltic Sea. Poland and Denmark were allies with Russia, Peter started the Great War.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    A small group fromed of nobles and army officers tried to overthrow the czar's government. Czar Nicholas I executed five leaders and exiled hundreds more to Siberia. In later generations the Decembrists' became heroes, despite their fail earlier.
  • Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    Gave 10 million Serfs personal freedom.Even though other people didn't agree with what Czar Alexander II wanted to do he still gave Serfs freedom.
  • The Assassination of Alexander II

    The Assassination of Alexander II
    There were many attempts to blow up the winter palace. A terroist organization wounded Alexander II with a bomb.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Thousands of unarmed men, women, and childeren went on a march so the Czar can hear their pleas. A group headed towards the marchers and gunshots fired and more than 100 died and hundres more were severely wounded.
  • The Russo-Japenese War

    Russia tried to seize he peninsula for itself, and Japan did not like that. Before going to war, Japan strengthened it's army and navy. Japan launched a surprised torpedo attack on to Russia.
  • The Revolution of 1905

    The Revolution of 1905
    Riots and strikes swept the cities. Peasants looted and burned the homes of landowners. The violence ended when Czar Nicholas II agreed to set up an elected assembley called the Duma and to make other minor reforms.

    Russia wanted to be in control over the straits from the Black Sea to the Aegan Sea and the Constantinople. Germany wanted Russia to stop what they were trying to do. Russia didn't listen to Germany's demands, so they started fighting. Germany won.

     Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
    Czar Nicholas II renounced the throne for himself and and Alexis, who was Nicholas' only son, but he had the disease hemophilia.
  • The March Revolution

    The March Revolution
    Riots and strikes erupted in the Russain capitol, Petrograd. Crows of angry people protested against the war and shortage of food. When it spreaded, the government sent troops to restore order. Many soldiers refused to fire on the crowds, hundreds even joined the protesters.
