    Started: Febuary 22, 1700
    Ended:September 10, 1721
    It was a fight between Sweden's Charles XII and Russia's Peter the Great. Russia replaced Sweden as the leading power in the Baltic region.
  • Decembrist Revolt

    Decembrist Revolt
    A small group of nobles and army officers tried to overthrow czar's government. They had hoped to set up a constitutional monarchy.Nicholas I quickly crushed the uprising.
  • Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    Czar Alexander II emancipated/freed the serfs.
  • Assassination of Alexander II

    Assassination of Alexander II
    Alexander II was killed in the streets of St. Pertersbutg. A bomb was thrown at him by the "Peoples Will" group.
  • The Russo-Japanese War

    Started: Febuary 8, 1904
    Ended: September 5, 1905
    This was was led to because there was a conflict over Korea and Manchuria with Japan. The war ended with a defeat for Russia that increased economic hardships at home.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Many people joined Father Bapon to march with him. Soilders appeared and shot at the crowd. They killed more that 100 people and more than 500 were injured. It is called Bloody Sunday because the snow was no longer white, but red, from all the blood.

    The revolution was sparked my the masasacre of Bloody Sunday because Russians were horrified. Riots and stikes swept the cities.
    In the end Nicholas II finally ageed to set up an elected assembly (Duma). The Duma didn't have much power and failed to resolve Russia's problems.

    Riots and strikes erupted in Petrograd - the capitol. Angry crowds protested the war and shortage of food. Troops were sent to stop riots and strikes but many joined in.

    Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
    An arrmy of garrison at Petrograd joined workers in demanding socialist reforms. Nicholas II was forced to abdicate.
