The Stamp Act
tThe British placed axes on papers. The stamp showed you colonists had paid the tax. -
Sugar Act
The British taxed the colonists when they bought sugar, indigo, Rum, coffee, wines, and tea. They did this to help pay the debt they had from fighting the French and Indian War. -
Patrick Henry's speech
Patrick Henry made a famous speech in which he said, "Give me liberty, or give me death!" These words stirred up the colonists against the British. -
The Sons of Liberty
This was a group of American patriots that formed a secret group that protested British taxes. The leader was Samuel Adams. The was formed to protect the rights of the colonists. -
Stamp Act Congress
This Congress was the first time representatives from the colonies met together to protest British taxes - specifically the Stamp Act. The phrase, "No taxation without representation" started there. -
Townshend Acts
This British law put colonial taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. It got the colonists very angry. -
Boston Massacre
The British troops shot and killed 5 colonists. The first colonist to die was an african american named Crispus Attickus. The colonists had gathered to protest having so many British troops in Boston and soldiers thought they heard the order to shoot. -
Boston Tea Party
Sons of Liberty dressed as mohawk indians, boarded 3 ships in Boston Harbor and threw 342 crates of tea. They did this to protest British taxation. -
First Contintental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a group of delegates from the twelve british north colonies in america, who met together in the early revolution. It was called a response to the Intollerable Acts. The Intolerable Acts had punished Boston for the Boston Tea Party.
