    The stamp act was passed so that Britain could pay back their debt of the French and Indian War. The colonists started to boycott British goods, and started forming secret societies, like the Sons of Liberty.

    Housing British troops proved to be very expensive so colonists were forced to house the troops. British soldiers were then targeted.

    The sugar act was passed so that Britain could pay back their debt of the French and Indian War. The colonists felt that Britain did not have a right to tax.

    Threre were many events that lead to the Revolutionary War. Most events happened based on the acts and taxes the King and Parliment had placed on the colonies. The colonists found themselves pulling away from Endland, the mother country. The colonists felt that England had no right to tax them, which caused tention between the colonies and Great Britain. So there was indeed a lot of events that led to the Revalutionary War.

    Nine of the thirteen colonies sent representatives to New York City to decide what they were to do next.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Stated that Parliament had supreme authority to govern the colonies. The colonists didn’t feel threatened by the Declaratory Act, so they just ignored it.

    Townshend Act
    Britain still needed money in the colonies to pay for troops and other expenses. The colonists felt more like foreigners than English citizens. The colonists protested writs of assistance and boycott British goods.

    An incident in 1770 in which Britain troops fired on and killed American colonists.

    Britain closed the port of Boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea. They replaced the elected council with an appointed one. Also they increased the governor’s power over the colonists. Lastly they allowed British officers to house troops in private dwellings.

    A meeting of representatives from most of the colonies, which was called in reaction to the Intolerable Act.
  • Battle of Lexington

    Battle of Lexington
    Shots were fired between the colonists and the British. The colonists retreated since many were wounded and they were outnumbered by the British. The British marched out of Lexington to Concord.
  • Battle of Concord

    Battle of Concord
    British soldiers were sent to Concord to seize the arms and ammunitions in Concord. News of Lexington had spread and the militia gathered and marched to Concord and attacked the British, this time the colonists outnumbered the British.

    The second continental congress began meeting in Philadelphia. This was America’s government during the war.

    Was so that King George would see that most of the colonists believed that the colonies are independent from Britain.
