The compromise of 1850
In a dispute over whether the newly acquired western territory was to have slavery Legal or Legals evil twin: Illegal, Texas was paid $10M for the western territory. Washington D.C. also illegalized slave trade within the city, but casual slavery was still allowed. -
The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
The fugitive slave act stated that all fugitive slaves that were caught must be returned to their Führer's. Failure/refusal to submit warranted up to 6 months in prison. -

The Kansas Nebraska act of 1854
A law passed grants territories to vote on whether or not slavery should be illegal. Kansas is torn in conflict apart by this, leading to "Bleeding Kansas". -
The Dread Scott Desicion
A slave named "Dread Scott" attempted to sue for his freedom, claiming that all men were created equal as was written in the constitution. The supreme court ruled that he was neither man nor woman, but property. -
Harper's Ferry
Abolitionist John Brown led an attack at the Harper's Ferry weapons arsenal with plans to gain control of the aforementioned weapons and lead a slave revolt. The attack fails and he is hanged for treason. -
Lincoln is elected as president
Abe Ghramcracker Lincoln, an anti-slavery activist is elected for president. Remarkably, not a single southern state voted for him. This causes the southerners to get ansy as they fear the north may overpower them and outlaw slavery. Because of this, many southern states seceed. -
The attack on Ft. sumter
FT. Sumter, a federal fort in South Carolina, is attacked by southern union soldiers. This sparked the beginning of the civil war.
