    Invention of the Cotton gin
    Eli Whitney was an inventor who invented the cotton gin to revolutionize the production of cotton. This invention had speed up the removing of the seeds from the cotton fiber. Even though cotton became America's leading export, Whitney made little money due to patent issues. He later started to build muskets for the U.S Government.   • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    Tensions between the people who supported slavery and the people who were against it, began to rise across America. Missouri requested admission to the union as a slave state on 1819. In order to keep peace, Congress came up with a suggestion. Congress completed with Missouri's request, but also made Maine a free state. It also passed an amendment that divided the slave regions with the free regions.

  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner was an African American slave who led an effective slave rebellion. Turner was convinced it was the time to rise by an eclipse of the sun. He killed the Travis family and enlisted 75 other slaves in an insurrection and killed 51 whites. He spread fear toward the white in the South. He hid and got caught and hanged. This influenced harsher laws on slaves.

    Tariff of 1828 and Nullification crisis
    A confrontation happened between the state of South Carolina and the Federal government in 1832 through 1833 in order to declare null and void in the state. The doctrine of nullification had been approved by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in the Virginia and Kentucky Revolutions.     Uncle Tom's Cabin is published
    Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This was an anti-slavery novel that sold 300,000 copies in only three months.     This was a term used to describe the violence of the seattlement of Kansas. The Kansas Nebraska Act overturned the Missouri Compromise use of splitting between slaves and the free and was known as a " boarder war".     Slave holders could now take their slaves into western territories. Popular sovereignty was established where residences of new teritory could vote if slavery was allowed.
