Eli Whitney made the Cotton Gin to make it easier to get the seeds out of cotton. Nobody agreed with this because it made it easier for slaves and anybody could make this machine. It help start the war because it made it easier. -

During Andrew Jackson's presidency, South Carolina declared the tariffs of 128 and 1832 to be unconstitutional and considered them invalid. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
A slave rebellion that took place in Virginia. Nat Turner was the leader of this rebellion it was the largest and deadliest slave uprising in History. -

Compromise of 1850
In September 1850 five laws were approved that related to slavery. The fugative slave act amended and slave trade was abolished in DC. California entered the US as a free state, territorial government was created in Utah and in New Mexico. -

Dred Scott Decision
On this day in 1857 the Supreme Court passed a law allowing slave owners to take their slaves into the western territories. Dred Scott was a slave who claimed he should be freed since his master moved to a northern state that did not allow slavery. The court denied him of freedom. -
