French and Indian War
Drove the Americans to rebel against English rule and begin the war for independence. Half of the british budget went to this war starting taxes. -
Stamp Act
Angered colonists because they were forced to pay taxes and had no say in it. Direct attempt by England to raise revenue in the colonies without the consent of the colonials. -

This was the first attempt at colonial unity against the British -
Quartering Act
All people had to let soldiers come in and provide shelter and supplies to the British soldiers. NY did not comply -

Caused Taxes on imports like lead, paper, paint' and tea

Boston Massacre
A conflict between Redcoats and the colonists and the Redcoats. Graphic symbol of british opprrssion and brutality. -
Tea Act
This lowered the cost of Tea but only bailed out the British East India Company. This angered colonists because they were against all british taxes. This caused a boycott on tea. -
Boston Tea Party
Dressed as Indians and threw tea off of ships. This was in response to Britian passing the Intolerable Acts. Neither side would budge. -
Intolerable Acts
Closed the port of Boston until the damages from the Boston Tea Party were paid for. This also greatly reduced the colonial government power. This helped lead to the 1st Continental Congress -
1st Continental Congress
These 12 colonies (Georgia not included) Wanted to rebel many of the acts since 1773 and called for military preparation. Also Wanted nonimportation and nonconsumption of all British goods. THEY DID NOT WANT INDEPENDENCE!!
